ABOVE BELOW AROUND LIMITED ("we", "us", or "our") operates the Momentum mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you use our App.

We are committed to protecting your privacy. Your personal data is stored on your device and in your personal iCloud account—we do not have access to your coaching conversations or personal information.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information You Provide

When you use Momentum, the App collects information you voluntarily provide during coaching sessions, including:

  • Your values, goals, and milestones
  • Coaching conversation content
  • Gratitude and check-in responses
  • Progress tracking data

Important: This information is stored locally on your device and synced to your personal iCloud account. We do not have access to this data.

1.2 Information Processed by AI Services

To provide AI coaching, your conversation messages are sent to Anthropic's Claude AI service for processing. Anthropic processes this data according to their Privacy Policy.

Key points about AI processing:

  • Conversations are processed in real-time to generate coaching responses
  • Anthropic does not use your data to train their AI models (per their API terms)
  • We do not store copies of your conversations on our servers

1.3 Optional Debug Mode (For Support Only)

By default, your conversations are private. The app only sends your messages to Anthropic to generate coaching responses. We do not track, store, or monitor your conversations.

If you're experiencing technical problems and contact our support team at support@abovebelowaround.com, we may ask you to temporarily enable Debug Mode in Settings. This allows us to see conversation logs to diagnose the issue.

Important warnings about Debug Mode:

  • This includes the content of your coaching conversations only
  • Your values, milestones, steps, and other account data are NOT transferred
  • Only enable Debug Mode if our support team has asked you to
  • Turn it off immediately after the issue is resolved

We recommend: Do not enable Debug Mode unless you're working directly with our support team.

1.4 Purchase Information

Subscription purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. We receive confirmation of your subscription status but do not have access to your payment details. Apple's privacy practices are governed by their Privacy Policy.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use information for the following purposes:

  • Provide AI Coaching: Your conversations are sent to Anthropic's API to generate personalised coaching responses
  • App Functionality: Your data is stored locally to enable features like progress tracking, check-ins, and reviews
  • Customer Support: If you enable Debug Mode, we can see conversation logs to help diagnose technical issues
  • Process Payments: Apple handles subscription management and confirms your subscription status to us

3. Data Storage and Security

3.1 Local Storage

Your personal data (values, milestones, conversations, check-ins) is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework with encryption at rest.

3.2 iCloud Sync

If you have iCloud enabled, your data syncs to your personal iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit. This data is encrypted and only accessible to you through your Apple ID.

3.3 No Server Storage

We do not operate servers that store your personal data. We cannot access, read, or recover your coaching conversations or personal information.

4. Data Sharing

We share your information only in the following circumstances:

  • AI Processing: Conversation content is sent to Anthropic for AI response generation
  • Debug Mode (opt-in only): If you enable Debug Mode for support, conversation logs are sent to a debugging service
  • Legal Requirements: If required by law, regulation, or legal process

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

5. Your Rights and Control Over Your Data

Under UK data protection law (UK GDPR), you have full control over your information:

  • Privacy by default: We only ask for your first name—no email address, no account signup. We designed this to be private from the start.
  • See and edit what your coach knows: View and change everything your coach uses to help you (Account → View Coaching Context) (Rights of Access and Rectification)
  • Edit your data: Change your values, milestones, and steps anytime
  • Delete everything: Remove all your data permanently (Account → Delete Account & Data) (Right to Erasure)
  • Your data stays in your control: Stored only on your device or in your iCloud account, accessible only through the app (Right to Data Portability)

6. Why We're Allowed to Use Your Data

UK law requires us to have a legal reason to use your information. Here's ours:

  • You subscribed: We need your data to deliver the coaching service you paid for (Legal basis: Contract)
  • You gave permission: If you enable Debug Mode for support, you explicitly choose to share conversation data (and can turn it off anytime) (Legal basis: Consent)
  • Basic app function: We use minimal data to keep the app working and secure (Legal basis: Legitimate Interests)

7. Data Retention

Your data is retained on your device and iCloud account until you choose to delete it. When you delete your account through the App, all data is permanently removed from your device and iCloud.

If Debug Mode is enabled, conversation logs may be retained for up to 30 days for troubleshooting purposes, then automatically deleted.

8. Children's Privacy

Momentum is not intended for children under 16 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 16, please contact us immediately.

9. Your Conversations Are Processed in the US

When you chat with your AI coach, your messages are sent to Anthropic (the company that powers the AI) in the United States for processing.

What this means:

  • Your conversations temporarily go to Anthropic's servers in the US to generate responses
  • Anthropic follows strict data protection rules for international transfers
  • They don't store your conversations or use them to train AI models
  • This happens in real-time—your messages aren't sitting on their servers

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
